Peter Crowden elected chairman of NPTA

At their recent Board meeting, Peter Crowden of Rutland Pest Control was unanimously elected as NPTA chairman following the resignation earlier in the year of Barrie Sheard.

Recently, Peter Crowden seems to have become the ‘face and voice’ of pest control as he has appeared on endless TV and radio programmes, as well as in the national and local press, following the publication of the latest National Pest Technicians Association (NPTA) National Rodent Survey. These responsibilities come as part of his previous responsibilities with NPTA of publicity officer. When talking to Peter, this is obviously a role he thoroughly enjoys, but admits that his ‘straight talking approach’ may upset the occasional person along the way.

Having been in the pest control industry for over 30 years, Peter has run his own servicing company – Rutland Pest Control based near Oakham – for the last 15. Pest control is certainly dear to his heart as he says: “I love the pest control industry – I eat, sleep and drink it. I regard myself as a good old fashioned pest controller – one who believes in preventative, not reactive, pest control. Professional technical skills are paramount – I’ve no time for some of the more modern ‘bar code and swipe it’ approaches.”

Peter has been a member of NPTA since it was first established in 1993 and was elected onto the Board just over a year ago. Of his new appointment Peter says: “I’ve been elected as chairman so as to bring forward some new and fresh ideas – a task I’m grabbing with both hands.”

We all wish him well.

Peter Crowden
