Pest control on the small screen – again

Pest control is once again being beamed into viewers’ front rooms on their TV screens. Dishing the Dirt is a four-part series going out on ITV 1, whilst those with Sky (and now available on YouTube) saw the use of rodenticides on farms on Farming Sunday.

Episode two, of the series of four, called Dishing the Dirt went out at 22.35 on 20 October. The thrust of the series is a 'behind the scenes' exposé of filthy restaurants around the country and the bad practices they were getting away with. The series could only feature restaurants which had been prosecuted for bad practice of food handling within the last 12 months. The 20 October episode exposed three Indian restaurants on Manchester’s Curry Mile, the closure of a Greek restaurant in London along with a posh Chinese restaurant in Mayfair visited by EHO Claire Ritchie from Westminster City Council.

Resident pest control consultant to the series is none other than Peter Crowden of Rutland Pest Control and currently chairman of NPTA. Peter featured for roughly 15 minutes in the 20 October edition along with Rachel Wilcox and Phil Vicery who host the show.

Peter is no stranger to TV work as he was involved with the Restaurants from Hell series. Enthusing as ever, Peter advocates we all tune in to the last episode on 3 November as the whole issue of sticky boards and DIY pest control comes under the spot-light in a London restaurant. Yummy yummy! Does Peter ever eat out one wonders?

For those with Sky, you may have seen Farming Sunday on 11 October when rodent control on farms with Romax Rat CP rat bait received good air-time. If you don’t have Sky or missed it, all is not lost as you can watch the relevant section on YouTube by clicking here.

Filmed on a typical English farm, those interviewed was rather like a Who’s Who of pest control – Paul Butt (Natural England), Oliver Madge (BPCA), David Cross (Connaught), Alan Morris (Bayer) and Chris Parmiter (Barrettine) with Jeff Knott from RSPB.

Romax

The filming covered rats on farms, concentrating on the benefits of good housekeeping, resistance, accidental & secondary poisoning of wildlife and baiting techniques. The benefits of Romax Rat CP were presented, especially the product's low toxicity regarding secondary poisoning.
