Library

A great deal of useful information comes into the Pest office or is found when we are out and about! We frequently post news stories about relevant books, leaflets, apps and other resources. But, finding this information, when it's needed and, quickly, at a later date can be difficult. That's why we've created this library for pest professionals. It's where we file all the useful stuff we come across and it's all searchable.

The perfect storm The perfect storm
During the latter part of the 20th century up to the present day, the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) has become increasingly concerned about the lack of a joined up and comprehensive approach to policy creation especially with regard to pest control. Results obtained by the National Pest Advisory Panel (NPAP) surveys of 2002 and 2009 show a reduction in pest control services provided by local authorities and a decline in the qualifications, technical expertise, knowledge and understanding of pest species among those responsible for public health. However, recent changes to the structure of public health pest control provision has put our health at serious risk. In some parts of the country, it is predicted we will see conditions return to those we have not seen for many years. This 16-page brochure reviews these threats.

Pest minimisation for outdoor and mobile catering Pest minimisation for outdoor and mobile catering
This 24-page document provides guidelines for pest minimisation for owners and managers of establishments within the fast food and catering industry. It covers the recognition, prevention and management of relevant pest infestations. The document has been produced by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) Olympic Working Group on pest management. It is not intended to be fully inclusive but provides the key principles of best practice. The appendicies provide more detailed information on common pests found in food premises as well as check lists for the various sectors involved.
