Congratulations DSV – Eurocido 2014 in Dortmund

Eurocido 2014, held in Hall 5 of the Westfallenhallen in Dortmund, Germany over the two days of 19 and 20 February was a big success. This was the 11th Euricido event and, on each occasion, they seem to have got bigger and better.

Held in alternate years to PestEx which is located in London, Eurocido now rivals this UK event as the meeting place for the European-based pest control market. Having said that, there were still plenty of practical German pest controllers in attendance despite the Euros 35 charge on the door – reduced if booked and paid in advance.

Eurocido website proved its worth
This year, the organiser, Deutscher Schá¤dlingsbeká¤mpfer-Verband (DSV) used web-based facilities to handle the supply of information before the event as well as delegate pre-registration. Although an added expense, this worked well and a large number of visitors appeared to have pre-registered as there were no long queues at the registration desk.

However, you could be forgiven for wondering if you had arrived at the correct event, as there was not a single Eurocido sign outside or inside the hall.

Often the first day at such events is the busiest, and organiser Andreas Beckmann, chief executive from DSV, reported that over 500 visitors had arrived before 11.00. But, reviewing the event after it had finished, Andreas reckoned day two had been busier – maybe they, and everyone else, had come to attend the risk mitigation seminar in the afternoon.

Seminar programme popular
The seminars generally proved very popular, and for international visitors the simultaneous translation into English was much appreciated.

Exhibitors from across Europe
With very nearly 100 exhibition stands (compared with the PestEx tally of nearly 90 in 2013), there was plenty to see, and luckily all were housed in the same hall.

Although German companies accounted for the largest percentage, there were exhibitors from right across mainland Europe with a good contingent from the UK – Brandenburg, Control Zone, IPC, P+L, PelGar, PestWest, Rat Pak, Russell IPM and Suterra. As to be expected, all the main German distributors were present (PPS, Killgerm, Funol etc) as were the multi-national companies such as Bell, BASF, Bayer and Syngenta.

As usual, Pest has produced a report on the products which caught our eye at the exhibition.

A considerable amount of personal stamina is required at these events, as having stood or marched around the exhibition all day, over 300 delegates enjoyed the convivial Pest Control News dinner held on the middle night.

Well done Andreas and DSV – we look forward to Eurocido 2016.
