Around 200 pest professionals joined a recent BPCA member webinar exploring the science and practical techniques behind effective cockroach control.
The online session, Cracking cockroach control – species, habits and treatment success, featured Steve Broadbent of Ensystex and attracted strong engagement from members working across domestic, commercial and food industry environments.
During the webinar, Mr Broadbent examined the biology and behaviour of the cockroach species most commonly encountered in the UK, including the German cockroach (Blattella germanica) and Oriental cockroach (Blatta orientalis). Drawing on decades of field experience and scientific research, he explained how understanding cockroach behaviour can significantly improve treatment outcomes.
The session covered key aspects of cockroach management, including how cockroaches forage and move through buildings, the importance of harbourages and aggregation behaviour, and how bait placement and formulation influence treatment success. Steve also discussed population structure, the role of sanitation and moisture control, and how resistance management can affect long-term control programmes.
BPCA said the event received excellent feedback from attendees, with many highlighting the practical insights and real-world examples shared during the session.
The full webinar recording is now available for BPCA members to watch back as part of their continuing professional development (CPD).
Members using the BPCA Registered scheme need to log the activity in their CPD records after watching the session.
