AgriSense becomes Suterra on 1 June 2012

In a move which really comes as no surprise to the industry, AgriSense, the well-known South Wales manufacturer of attractant-based insect pest monitoring and control products for the pest control and retail home & garden markets is official rebranding.

In the company’s official press release it says:”The AgriSense brand will continue to be used on many existing products and existing customers can still expect the same high level of support and service to which they have become accustomed.

Commenting on the change, Caroline James, design & marketing manager for the company, said: “AgriSense was purchased by Suterra in 2006 and the move to its new name completes the company’s integration into its new corporate family.”

A new re-vamped website is to be launched in the coming months.

Although this rebranding doesn’t come as a surprise, it is the passing of an era and the loss of a good British brand. The AgriSense organisation has been in existence for over 25 years and is well-known and respected across the world – despite the numerous changes of ownership it has endured throughout this period.

Somewhat similar to Exosect, the initial company, Biological Control Systems (BCS), was formed in 1984 as a spin-off by Dr Owen Jones from the University College Cardiff and Leiner Gelatins.

Expanding rapidly, in 1988, BCS was acquired by the newly formed US joint venture between Phillips Petroleum and Dow Corning, AgriSense and the UK division, AgriSense-BCS was formed. Combining the partners” strengths in pheromone and controlled release technology, resulted in several innovations in pheromone delivery appearing in the following years. AgriSense-BCS became a subsidiary company of Biosys in 1993, Thermo Trilogy Corp in 1997 and the Mitsui group in 2001.

AgriSense has been part of the Suterra group since May 2006.

Suterra is located in the Northwest of the USA, in Bend, Oregon. Formed in 1984 as Consep, the company has been trading as Suterra since 2001. Suterra acquired AgriSense in May 2006 and combined, the two companies offer one of the widest ranges of biorational pest control products, covering agriculture, horticulture, forestry, public health pest control and the home and garden markets.

Suterra has 150 employees worldwide with offices in South Wales, Barcelona and Argentina. The company is wholly owned by Roll Global, one of the world’s largest producers of nuts, citrus and pomegranates.
