NPTA is working with the Department for Work & Pensions (DWP) to drive recruitment into the sector.
Kevin Lawrenson, NPTA chief executive, said: “We reached out to DWP a while back, when we were talking about careers and the Careers Hub. DWP was really impressed that the Careers Hub is linked to the Royal Society of Public Health.
“DWP also really likes the concepts that we’ve pulled together with the recruitment of veterans and the 5<25 initiative. What they really like is the ability for somebody to join the industry, get support, mentoring and training, and come out with a qualification.”
Mr Lawrenson said that NPTA has a meeting lined up with DWP in the new year to look at how it can collaborate with the government department more effectively.
“In the new year, we have two webinars that we will run with sections of DWP,” Mr Lawrenson said.
“We’ve got two webinars: the first is for the Youth Hub and the other is the Career & Enterprise element. For the Youth Hub, we can really focus on what we’ve done with our 5<25 initiative. And in the other one, we will focus on general recruitment into the industry as well – this will get us front and centre of those that are trying to find jobs for people.”
