BPCA is asking all pest professionals to help shape the future of Level 4 advanced qualifications, as a new industry survey launches to find out what higher-level qualifications should actually deliver for those on the tools and running businesses.
The survey is aimed at all technicians, supervisors, managers and business owners. It looks at what pest professionals really need from higher-level training, not just in theory, but in day-to-day practice.

A new qualifications framework
Following extensive consultation, work on a new competency-based qualification framework is well underway. With the Level 3 qualification now progressing, focus is turning to the next step: defining what a Level 4 advanced qualification should look like.
Topics include advanced technical competence, legislation and compliance, species-specific expertise, leadership skills, business management and how realistic it is to study while juggling site work, customers and staff.
BPCA training development manager, Karen Dawes, said the survey is about listening to the industry rather than making assumptions.
“By building qualifications that genuinely reflect modern pest management, we’re supporting individuals, strengthening businesses, and raising standards across the profession,” she said.
Built by the industry
The framework is being shaped collaboratively, with training bodies, industry stakeholders and pest management businesses working together to ensure it reflects real operational needs and future skills.
BPCA said that no new qualifications will be launched until the full pathway has been agreed and approved. This ensures a joined-up, progressive framework that works.
Have your say
BPCA is now seeking feedback on what the Level 4 qualification should include, covering both knowledge and practical skills. Your responses will directly shape the syllabus, assessment methods and definition of advanced practice.
