BPCA seeks international views to shape pest management training

The British Pest Control Association (BPCA) is seeking views from pest management business owners outside the UK as it explores demand for international training and certification.

The association has launched a survey to identify gaps in existing provision and establish whether a BPCA programme could help businesses access the knowledge and skills their teams need.

It is inviting responses from owners operating in countries where suitable professional training is limited, difficult to access or missing important subjects. Businesses do not need to be BPCA members or hold Observer membership to take part.

Understanding local needs
The survey asks owners which subjects would make the biggest difference to their businesses, who would benefit from training and how it could best be delivered.

It covers practical considerations including language, cost, assessment and the importance of local recognition. Questions about existing qualifications and providers will help BPCA consider how a future programme could complement training already available.

Karen Dawes, BPCA training development manager, said: “Finding suitable training for your team can be difficult when local options are limited. We want to hear from business owners about what is missing and what would make training useful and accessible to their technicians.

“Your answers will help us understand whether BPCA could help, which subjects matter most and what we would need to consider before developing a programme. We need that input from businesses before deciding what to offer.”

Shaping a possible programme
BPCA is exploring training in professional pest management knowledge and principles that could apply across countries, alongside content addressing local needs.

No programme has been agreed. The survey will help establish whether there is sufficient interest and what a future offer should involve. Recognition by national authorities or qualification bodies would need to be explored separately.

The association wants to hear from businesses seeking a stronger foundation for new technicians as well as those looking for further development for experienced staff.

Owners can complete the international training survey to share their priorities and help inform BPCA’s next steps.

BPCA also offers international Observer membership to pest management companies worldwide. Businesses interested in connecting with the association can find out more through its Observer membership information.
