During the BPCA Annual General meeting held on 8 June at their new offices in Derby, the Association was delighted to create a new BPCA Life Member and to present their annual training awards.

New life member
It came as no surprise to hear that following his recent retirement Dave Olbury has been created a new life member of the British Pest Control Association (BPCA). This honour is only bestowed on individuals who have, over many years, voluntarily worked on behalf of the industry and the Association.

Dave retired on 22 May from his post as group manager of pest control services for Manchester City Council – a post he has held for more years than most of us can remember. He is a Chartered Environmental Health Practitioner, an examiner for the Royal Society for Public Health, a member of the BASIS PROMPT Steering Committee and acts as secretary to the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, National Pest Advisory Panel (NPAP). In 2009 he was inducted into the Pest Control News Hall of Fame.

Dave is continuing to take an active role in professional pest control in the capacity of an independent consultant. He can be reached by clicking here.

BPCA is proud to award…
BPCA also proud to present their two annual awards for candidates who excelled in training.

The first, the Charles Keeble award, is named after the long-time BPCA Director who oversaw the initial launch of the first BPCA training scheme. This award is presented to the candidate who achieves the best result in the BPCA Accredited Technician in Pest Control examination. This year it was won by Steve Bell of Cannon Pest Control.

Joe Brook of Yorkshire-based Fuminex was presented with the John Bull award for the candidate who achieves the highest mark in the Fumigation Diploma. This award was created in 2005 and is presented in memory of John Bull who for many years acted as technical director for Rentokil, but was also instrumental in the creation of the BPCA Fumigation Registration Scheme.
