BPCA members are invited to attend a Department for Work and Pensions webinar on how work experience placements can support employers and help young people take their first steps into work.
The online session takes place on Thursday, May 14, from 2pm to 3pm.
The webinar will explain how the DWP Work Experience Programme gives unemployed young people with little or no work history the chance to develop practical workplace skills.
For pest management businesses, work experience could also help introduce more young people to the sector at a time when recruitment remains a challenge.
BPCA has warned that up to 40% of pest technicians are expected to retire in the next 10 years. Encouraging young people to consider pest management as a skilled, varied and essential career will be important for the future of the sector.
During the webinar, attendees will hear about the benefits of offering work experience placements, how employers are already working with DWP, and the practical steps involved in getting started.
The session will also include speakers from B&M and Channel 4, who will share insight from their own work experience programmes.
Rosina Robson, BPCA chief executive, said: “Work experience can be a really practical way for employers to support young people while also opening their eyes to sectors they may never have considered before.
“Pest management is full of varied, skilled and important roles, but many young people won’t know those opportunities exist unless we help show them.”
