Pest readers made their views clear and voted XL8, manufactured by County Down-based Lance Lab, into the winner”s spot in this year”s Pest Best Product award. The results were announced during PestTech and the presentations made.
Launched earlier this year, the XL8 telescopic lance is light, easy to use and allows precision insecticide dust application at heights up to nine meters high. Obviously benefits recognised by customers this year, particularly during the wasp season.

“We were delighted to win the award,” said a very pleasantly surprised Philip Bowman, managing director of Lance Lab. “This award is totally unexpected and a great honour for our new company.

“Lance Lab is totally focused on innovation and development of products for the professional pest control market. It is great to know that our customers have voted for us, such feedback is important for innovation and development and we have further products in development for the 2014 season which will hopefully be as popular. Thanks again to all who voted for us.”

In what was a closely fought battle, Formidor ant bait from BASF Pest Control Solutions took second place with Bell Laboratories” Detex non-tox soft bait in a very creditable third place.

Pest associate editor, Helen Riby said: “We are delighted to see that a product from such a relatively new company has won this year’s award. The results are based entirely on the votes cast by Pest readers, so obviously XL8 has made a considerable impact. We are also delighted to see that products from two leading manufacturers took second and third places.”

The Pest Best Product Award 2013 was open to any product launched between 1 January 2012 and 31 August 2013. Products can be nominated by Pest readers, manufacturers and distributors but it is Pest readers who vote for the product they feel has been the most innovative – the product which has made the greatest improvement to their working life and/or working practices.
