BASF hosts pre-launch event for breakthrough fly control innovation

BASF has unveiled its latest innovation in fly management, Seclira Fly Bait, at a dedicated pre-launch event for selected pest control professionals and organisations.

Held at Adventure Sports Warwick, the event brought together a select group of industry guests for an early look at the new ready-to-use, pressurised fly bait, designed to deliver fast, discreet and effective control in a variety of environments.

BASF used the event to highlight Seclira Fly Bait’s breakthrough approach to controlling flies across urban and rural environments, hospitality settings and other high-hygiene locations.

Powered by the fast-acting active ingredient Dinotefuran, combined with a highly attractive bait matrix, the formulation delivers visible knockdown within minutes and provides residual control for up to six weeks, helping pest professionals manage the most critical periods of the fly season.

Importantly for public-facing environments, the product is non-repellent, odourless and colourless, remaining virtually undetectable once applied. This makes it particularly suited to restaurants, bars, hotels, homes, offices, warehouses and food-handling sites where discretion is essential.

The product has been developed through years of research, market consultation and extensive field trials, offering pest controllers a precise and efficient method of tackling nuisance fly infestations.

The day opened with a welcome from Laurence Barnard, country business manager at BASF, who outlined the company’s ambition to bring meaningful innovation back to the professional pest control market, as attendees enjoyed bacon rolls and coffee ahead of the morning’s presentations.

He was joined by Dr Matthew Davies, head of technical at Killgerm, who provided attendees with a detailed overview of fly biology and behaviour, insecticide resistance considerations and the role of active ingredients in modern fly control strategies.

Mr Barnard then guided attendees through the product’s specifications and key differentiators, highlighting the features that set it apart within the competitive fly control market.

While some elements remain subject to ongoing registration approval, feedback from those present indicated strong interest and anticipation ahead of the official launch once the product is approved.

Mr Barnard said: “Fly infestations aren’t just a nuisance – they’re a threat to hygiene, productivity and reputation. Pest controllers need solutions that work quickly, reliably and discreetly. Seclira Fly Bait has been designed with these real-world challenges in mind, offering fast control without compromising professionalism or appearance.

“There has been a lack of industry-wide new product innovation in recent years, so we’re proud to introduce a new tool that supports pest professionals in meeting evolving customer expectations.”

Following the presentations, attendees took part in an extended clay shooting session, offering further opportunities for networking and informal discussion among fellow pest technicians.

PestEx attendees will be able to find out more by visiting BASF on Stand 84 or attending the presentation, “Seclira: Revolutionising Fly Control,” delivered by BASF technical manager Jeferson de Andrade on day one of the event.

Alongside Seclira Fly Bait, BASF will also showcase its wider professional pest control portfolio, including the award-winning cholecalciferol rodenticide, Selontra.

Visitors are invited to meet the technical team, explore the full product range and discuss the trends shaping the pest control sector.

  • Seclira Fly Bait is not currently authorised for use in the UK and remains pending registration approval. No supply will be available prior to authorisation.
