Pest professionals north of the border have a fresh opportunity to gain an industry-standard qualification this spring, as the British Pest Control Association returns to Edinburgh with its popular Level 2 Award in Pest Management.
Taking place from May 18-22 at the Edinburgh Training and Conference Venue, the non-residential course is designed for anyone looking to become a qualified public health pest control technician.
The five-day classroom course, combined with six weeks of online learning beforehand, equips candidates with the skills and knowledge required to work confidently across a range of common pest scenarios.
Delegates will cover techniques for managing rats, mice, wasps, flies and bed bugs, alongside essential underpinning knowledge of pest biology and behaviour, survey techniques and safe control methods.
The qualification also includes dedicated exam preparation, helping candidates build confidence with strategic question-answering, time management and revision techniques ahead of the assessment.
Leading the training is pest management expert John Stewart, who brings more than two decades of industry experience to the classroom.
“I’ve been in the industry for 22 years and delivering training for 16 of those,” Mr Stewart said.
“I’ve worked with two global pest control companies and within local authorities, which has given me insight into everything from servicing food and pharmaceutical manufacturing sites to tackling domestic pest problems. I’m looking forward to supporting the next generation of technicians as they work towards their Level 2.”
The venue sits in Edinburgh’s historic Old Town, just minutes from Waverley Station and within walking distance of landmarks such as Edinburgh Castle and Arthur’s Seat, making it easily accessible for delegates travelling from across Scotland and beyond.
Lunch is provided on each of the five training days. Candidates will also receive a copy of the British Pest Management Manual, six weeks of structured online learning prior to the course, and all supporting training materials.
For those new to the sector, or for technicians looking to formalise their experience with a recognised qualification, the RSPH/BPCA Level 2 Award remains a key step in building a professional career in pest management.
