Measuring the ups and downs of pest management

LinkedIn +

For the third year running, we are conducting a ‘state of the nation’ survey mapping the mood of UK pest management.

BASF Pest Solutions and Pest publications have teamed up to ask: What are the issues the people at the sharp-end of our industry are most concerned about? How confident are the country’s pest management professionals?

With your help the 2013 online survey will capture the mood of the industry. It will identify the differences and similarities in outlook between the local authority sector, commercial pest control businesses and self-employed pest controllers. And, it will track the changes in attitudes and intentions over the past three years.

So how will it work?
“This morning, 25 February, we have emailed allPestreaders who have provided an email address and who are registered as working for a local authority or a commercial private pest control company or as self-employed pest controllers. This email contains a link to the 2013 questionnaire,” explainsPest’sassociate editor Helen Riby.

“So, if you’re at the sharp-end of UK pest control please keep an eye on your in-box and make the most of your chance to tell us how you think the industry is performing. If the email hasn”t arrived then please check your junk mail just in case it’s been wrongly identified as spam – it will come from [email protected],” she adds.

Not on our email list? You can still take part?
However even if you”re not on our email list? You can still take part via this link. But please note, this survey is about the UK market and it has been designed for the people at the coal-face of pest control, along with their managers and/or business owners. So please only click on the link if you fit this description!

Simpler & quicker to complete
Helen continues: “We’ve taken the opportunity to simplify a few of the questions in this year’s survey as we”re conscious that our readers are busy people and we were concerned that the questionnaire might be getting a bit too long.

“For example in the 2013 survey we are asking you simply to say whether your work to control rats, mice, bed bugs, wasps etc has ‘increased’, ‘stayed the same’ or ‘decreased’ compared with the previous year.

“Also, the section dealing with where pest control work is conducted now only asks for the rough split between ‘domestic’, ‘farm’ and other ‘commercial’ work so the whole thing should only take 15 or 20 minutes to complete.”

The fact is that the more people who take part in the survey, the more complete will be the picture it provides of our industry and the more useful the data will be to everyone involved. The results will be presented at PestEx on 10 April and will be made widely available in a special pull-out supplement in the May & June issue of Pest magazine.

“I cannot emphasise enough that the information you provide will be treated as confidential to the survey organisers and no comments will be attributed to individuals,” adds Helen.
