Celebration time. Awards presented to industry leaders Pest Control News Hall of Fame winners, David Pinniger receives MBE from the Queen and the Emperor of Japan honours Dr Motokazu Hirao.
The achievements of several leaders from the pest management industry have been recognised at events this autumn.
Hall of FameNow into its second year, the 2008 crop of inductees into the Pest Control News Hall of Fame was announced at the dinner immediately following PestTech 2008 on 5 November. Very proud to be awarded this accolade were well known consultants Alan Buckle, Clive Boase and David Pinniger, along with Bruce Blything of Industrial Pesticides. | It was a busy week for David Pinniger, as less than seven days after joining the Hall of Fame, Dave entered a much more famous royal hall – the Waterloo Chamber at Windsor Castle. Accompanied by Becky, his wife, Dave was there to receive his MBE presented by The Queen.
This was the first time an investiture had been held at Windsor Castle since Queen Victoria”s reign. The ceremony was in the Waterloo Chamber with the official photographs taken in St George”s Hall which has been completely restored following the disastrous fire in November 1992. Dave said of this special event: “It was a wonderful day, the sun shone and my family were with me to share it. I imagine it must be the first time anybody has spoken to The Queen about death watch beetles.” |

| On the other side of the world, Dr Motokazu Hirao (Moto), vice president of the Japanese Pest Control Association, was this year’s recipient of the autumn decoration of the Japanese Government. This was in recognition of his long and prominent contribution to pest management and public health.
Moto received the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays from the Emperor of Japan on 6 November at the Imperial Palace. This is a very rare event as only about 30 such audiences have been given in the life of the Emperor. |
