Held once every three years, the dates and details for the next International Conference on Urban Pests (ICUP) have been announced by the organisers

The conference is, once again, returning to Europe and will be held on 20 – 23 July 2014 and the venue is the University of Zurich, Switzerland.

This non-profit conference is the leading international forum for sharing information and ideas on the impact, biology and control of pests in the urban environment.
It is attended by entomologists, pest management professionals, and academic and government scientists, representing organisations from around the world.

As to be expected, the conference programme will address the science and management of a wide variety of pests including: hygiene pests (cockroaches, ants, bed bugs, houseflies), structural pests such as termites; vertebrates (rats, mice, pigeons) and invasive species such as mosquitoes.

Further topics to be addressed include medical entomology and acarology, the use of natural compounds and physical methods of control. Finally, no event of this standing would be complete without sessions looking at the future direction for urban pest control as well as the affects of the Biocidal Products Directive. In addition to conference sessions, there will be break-out interactive workshops.

Delegate registration will start in spring 2013 and there is a generous ‘early bird’ discount if bookings are made before 31 January 2014.

Details covering the offering of papers for considering by the organising committee will be announced in May 2013. The official language of the conference is English.

The conference website is now up and running and will be updated as events progress. Click here to view.

This will be the eighth in the series, the previous conference venues having been Cambridge, England (1993), Edinburgh, Scotland (1996) Prague, Czech Republic (1999), Charleston, USA (2002), Singapore (2005), Budapest, Hungary (2008) – click here to view a report – and Ouro Preto, Brazil (2011) – click here to view a report.

Proceedings from these events can be accessed by clicking here.
