Another tragic loss to the industry – Del Norton

It is with deep regret we have to announce the death on 20 October of Del Norton aged 60.

Del died peacefully in hospital in Nottingham after his year-long battle with cancer. Our thoughts go out to his wife, Barbara, and his two sons, Stuart and Daniel.

Always a cheerful person, Del was also known as something of a prankster who over the years caused much amusement with his colleagues. However, he was also one of the kindest, most helpful and practical people. Nothing was too much trouble.

Born and bred in London, Del had a variety of jobs, including working as a chef, before starting what was to become a life-time career in pest control. This began with a small pest control company undertaking fumigation. In the early 1970s he joined Rentokil Pest Control where he spent the rest of his working life until his departure in 1999, after which he set-up his own consultancy business.

Fumigation is the activity the industry will remember Del for the most, but he also spent time as service manager at the Nottingham branch where Peter Priestley was his branch manager. From here he moved on to take a national fumigation role, becoming part of John Charlton’s technical support team in the early 1990s.

For many years Del was deeply involved with all matters relating to fumigation within the industry at large. He was a member, and also chairman, of the BPCA fumigation comittee.

Del’s funeral will be on Wednesday 28 October at 13.15 at Bramcote Crematorium, Nottingham, NG9 3GJ.
