BPCA settles into new home

Onwards and upwards! After much hard work – some of it over the weekend – today (9 May) sees BPCA open for business in their new home.

Having been in leased office accommodation in Gleneagles House in Derby for the last 10 years, this move sees the British Pest Control Association (BPCA) rejoin the property owning classes. As BPCA’s offices prior to Gleneagles House (just around the corner at St James’ Court) were owned by the association.

BPCA is now ensconced in a shiny new office building near Derby railway station. BPCA purchased the land on Pride Park, a new development of purpose-built offices on the former home of Derby’s railway industry. The premises will be BPCA”s headquarters and also the hub of their training programme.

Lorraine Norton, BPCA operations manager said: “There is a clear benefit to BPCA and our members in buying premises now. The new offices are good quality, built to a reasonable specification and will meet our needs for the foreseeable future. We”d originally planned to move in April just after PestEx, but BT put the kybosh on that – we can”t have an office without phones!”

The offices are built over two floors and feature a training room, kitchen and break-out space downstairs. Upstairs there are the BPCA offices, reception and more meeting space. There is plenty of parking nearby and the station is close for those who want to ‘let the train take the strain’.

Simon Forrester, BPCA chief executive said: “The staff team has really pulled together to help design the new office space, liaise with contractors over every aspect of the build, and of course more recently, pack and unpack everything we own. We closed the old office on Friday 6 May, and we were back up and running on the Monday for an external meeting for 30 people. We”re already seeing a rise in the number of meetings held at the office, easily justifying the new training suite which I’m happy to say is full all the first week.”

This week also sees the East Midlands regional networking meeting to be held on Thursday 12 May. This is designed to give members a look at the new premises.

With the move comes one unexpected bonus – for football fans! If your team is playing Derby County FC, let BPCA know in advance and your car can be parked on site for free – as BPCA is just a few minutes walk from the ground.
